LeBron James is truly an inspiring individual. Back in 2015, he launched the I Promise campaign, which pledged to send a whopping 2,300 kids to college through his foundation. The only requirement? They had to graduate high school with at least a 3.0 GPA. And now, Kent State University has partnered with the LeBron James Family Foundation to take things even further. Eligible students in the I Promise network classes can now receive free four-year tuition at KSU, along with free room and board for their first year of college. It’s amazing to see someone use their platform to make such a positive impact on the world.
Michele Campbell, the executive director of the LeBron James Family Foundation, believes that the I PROMISE program operates on the idea of earning rather than simply receiving. She enthusiastically stated that the hardworking students have successfully earned more opportunities to excel and improve their lives.
At the moment, there are 193 students in their junior year of high school who make up the oldest classes of the I Promise Network. When the academic year of 2021-22 rolls around, these students will be able to take advantage of the Kent State offer. To qualify for free tuition, they must meet certain requirements such as being accepted into Kent State, filling out required financial aid forms, and completing a specific number of community service hours each semester. Like any scholarship program, these students must maintain good academic standing, as well as fulfill a set number of credit and community service hours to continue receiving eligibility.

He expressed his heartfelt motivation behind it, saying that he wanted to assist students in achieving their goals and aspirations. During 2018, LeBron James gained attention for his unwavering commitment to educating the youth in Akron, Ohio. The I Promise School, which he founded, currently accommodates 240 third and fourth graders who come from at-risk backgrounds. Plans are being laid to increase the school’s capacity to over 1,000 children. Notably, James recently unveiled proposals for the I Promise Village, which will be a temporary housing facility that aims to cater to families of the students. It is scheduled to open its doors in July 2020, just before the start of the next academic year.
